Este pueblo ha gozado desde siempre de un gran acervo en el campo de la mitolog\u00eda y las leyendas (acervo que ha recuperado y conservado en gran parte gracias a la ingente labor de Joxemiel Barandiaran) y de ello da fe cierto relato que se cuenta en torno a aquella primitiva iglesia. Los cristianos quer\u00edan edificarla en un sitio elevado, pero los gentiles se opon\u00edan a lo que consideraban una intromisi\u00f3n extra\u00f1a en sus dominios (a saber, los montes y alrededores). Por eso, todo lo que los cristianos consegu\u00edan avanzar durante el d\u00eda, los gentiles lo deshac\u00edan por la noche y trasladaban las piedras hasta el lugar en que hoy est\u00e1 sita la iglesia. Por fin, los cristianos se cansaron de tal juego y, cediendo, construyeron la iglesia donde hoy se halla ubicada. He aqu\u00ed el desenlace de este relato: “Una noche, una mujer de Zaindi casa pr\u00f3xima a la iglesia \u2013 se puso a espiar desde la ventana con la intenci\u00f3n de descubrir a los que trasladaban las piedras de un lugar a otro y vio a un gentil con su bueyes afanado en tal laboriosa tarea. El gentil se dio cuenta de que le espiaban y al pasar ante la ventana de aquella casa dijo:<\/p>\n
Vamos blanco, vamos rojo, a esa mujer que nos est\u00e1 espiando, s\u00e1cale el ojo izquierdo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
